The Festival of Cats is returning to Margate, offering a vibrant celebration of feline culture from May 1-4. This community arts event delves into the "psychology, sociology and whimsy" of cats through a wide array of artistic mediums.
Featuring contributions from 100 local artists, the festival includes exhibitions, events, and workshops spanning fine art, poetry, film, performance, and craft. Its origins trace back to a satellite event for Turner Contemporary's "Journeys with The Waste Land" exhibition in 2018, inspired by T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats."
Now a significant event for the Thanet region, the festival draws thousands of visitors. Highlights include an opening night private view at Pie Factory Margate, with proceeds benefiting Cats in Crisis Charity. Cat artist Job Muscroft will present new paintings at the Job Muscroft Gallery, while graffiti artist CatNeil's work can be seen in Ramsgate. Additionally, the popular London-based duo Travis and Sigrid, known for their cycling adventures with their deaf Norwegian forest cat, are scheduled to appear.
