Mara Brock Akil's Writers' Colony has announced its spring cohort, which will run from March 18 to June 6. Four emerging writers have been selected for this three-month screenwriting residency in Los Angeles. The program is designed to help writers develop original scripts that reflect their unique experiences and visions, with support from Netflix.
Writers participating in the residency engage in hands-on workshops and share their projects with industry professionals. The initiative specifically aims to support writers who have not yet broken into scripted television writers' rooms. Karen Horne has been appointed Executive Director, bringing extensive experience in diversity and inclusion from previous roles at Warner Bros. and other major entertainment companies.
Founded by Mara Brock Akil in 2021, the Writers' Colony is located next door to her story27 Productions company in West Adams, Los Angeles. The residency provides mentorship and increased exposure, fostering an interactive environment for these storytellers. Previous cohorts have included notable writers, and the program continues its commitment to championing new voices in the industry.
