Chidambaram S Poduval, the director of the highly successful Malayalam film Manjummel Boys, is facing sexual harassment charges. Kerala Police confirmed on Monday that a case has been registered following a complaint from a woman alleging an incident in 2022.
The complainant claims that Poduval trespassed into her Kochi apartment in Elamkulam and behaved inappropriately. Authorities have filed charges under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which address assault and sexual harassment.
Police have recorded the complainant's statement and will issue a notice to the filmmaker, asking him to appear for questioning. Poduval, who also directed Jan.E.Man, gained nationwide recognition for Manjummel Boys, a film based on real events about friends on vacation.
Manjummel Boys, made on a budget of approximately Rs 20 crore, achieved significant commercial success, grossing over Rs 240 crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2024. Poduval is also slated to make his Hindi directorial debut.
