- The film is set to re-release in theaters on March 6, 2026.

The Manipuri film 'Boong' has achieved a landmark victory, becoming the first Indian movie to win a BAFTA award in the Best Children's and Family Film category. Director Lakshmipriya Devi's acceptance speech, which included a heartfelt plea for peace in her home state of Manipur, has since become a point of contention. Shortly after the ceremony, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) removed Devi's winning address from its social media platforms, including X, without immediate explanation.
This action drew significant criticism online, with many accusing BAFTA of cultural erasure and silencing Indigenous voices. Social activist Binalakshmi Nepram urged for the speech's reinstatement, highlighting its importance for women and Indigenous representation. Reports indicate the video was later reposted on BAFTA's YouTube channel, though the British Academy has yet to issue an official statement regarding the initial removal.
In her speech, Devi expressed gratitude for the award recognizing her "very small film" rooted in the "troubled" and "underrepresented" region of Manipur. She prayed for peace and for the restoration of joy and dreams for the displaced children featured in the film. Directed by Devi, 'Boong' stars Gugun Kipgen and Bala Hijam, among others. The film is slated for a re-release in cinemas on March 6, 2026, following its BAFTA triumph.
