Megastar Mammootty has been bestowed with the Padma Bhushan award, recognizing his significant contributions to the field of Art. This honor was announced by the Government of India on January 25, 2026, acknowledging his prolific cinematic career that spans over five decades and includes more than 400 films. The prestigious award comes 28 years after he was first honored with the Padma Shri in 1998. Mammootty received this national recognition while also being honored with his ninth Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor in Thiruvananthapuram. He expressed profound gratitude, calling it the highest honor from the country.
The actor's wife, Sulfath Kutty, has been a consistent pillar of support throughout his 40-year career. Their relationship began with an arranged marriage, and Sulfath initially had reservations about Mammootty's transition from a lawyer to an actor shortly after their 1979 marriage. Despite her concerns, she supported his aspirations, and his talent soon gained recognition. The couple’s family expanded to include their children: Kutty Surumi, born in 1982, an artist, and Dulquer Salmaan, born in July 1983, a renowned actor. Surumi is married to Dr. Mohammed Rehan Sayeed, and they have two children. Dulquer Salmaan married Amal Sufiya in 2011, and they have a daughter, Maryam Amal Salmaan.
