Hindustani classical music recently resonated through Bihar Museum as Patna hosted 'Malhar Utsav'. This concert celebrated the monsoon season with traditional compositions and seasonal ragas, filling the auditorium with music that evoked the mood and emotion associated with the rains. The event was organized by Navras School of Performing Arts in association with the state art and culture department.
The performances included various traditional music genres such as thumri, kajri, jhula, and dadra. Vocalist Dhanashri Ghaisas, a disciple of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, led the recital. She was accompanied by Pandit Dharmanath Mishra on harmonium and Bibhas Sanghai on tabla, creating a rich ensemble. The concert featured pieces like 'maan na kariye gori' and 'aiso aayo bairi badra'.
Ajit Pradhan, secretary of Navras School of Performing Arts, explained that Malhar Utsav celebrates monsoon through evocative melodies, with Malhar being the most iconic raga. He described it as a dialogue between the musician and nature. Anjani Kumar Singh, director general of Bihar Museum, stated the museum consistently supports cultural activities and aims to preserve Indian classical art forms. The concert transformed the museum into a space where music and classical traditions converged to mark the monsoon.
