The Malayalam film 'Private' has earned a prestigious selection for the 48th Moscow International Film Festival, set to take place from April 16 to April 23. This marks a significant achievement as it is the only Malayalam film chosen for the competitive section of the globally respected event.
Directed by Deepak Deon, 'Private' stars Indrans and Meenakshi Anoop and centers on the critical themes of freedom of expression and human rights. Deon stated the film arises from a deep concern about the diminishing space for these fundamental rights and how power systems normalize control and silence dissent.
The narrative follows two strangers, an elderly man and a teenage girl, whose lives intersect unexpectedly. Previously, the film faced delays and controversy due to directives from the Central Board of Film Certification, requiring cuts before its theatrical release on October 10 last year. The film was also previously selected for the PK Rosy Film Festival in Chennai.
