The government acknowledged his significant contributions to Malayalam cinema, noting his 2010 National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in 'Adaminte Makan Abu' and a Kerala State Film Award for 'Achanurangatha Veedu' in 2005.
His mortal remains were scheduled to be displayed at Paravur Town Hall on June 7, 2026, from 9 am to 1 pm, allowing the public to pay their respects. The funeral was arranged for the same day at 3 pm at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam.
The state government declared it would cover all funeral expenses and provide official honors, including a bugle salute, during the ceremony. Salim Kumar, known for his versatility, appeared in over 300 films, gaining fame for both comedic and character roles.
