Mahershala Ali Out as Blade; Project Shelved

The planned Marvel Cinematic Universe movie featuring Mahershala Ali as Blade has reportedly been canceled, with the lead actor confirming his exit from the project. Announced in 2019, the film has experienced significant production hurdles, including multiple changes to its directing and writing teams.

Ali, who made a vocal appearance as Blade in 'Eternals' in 2021, recently stated that the vampire hunter's solo film is "not for me" and implied that if Marvel Studios had intended to proceed, it would have already happened. This confirmation follows years of speculation and disappointment among fans about the movie's troubled development.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has acknowledged his own feelings of "failure" regarding the inability to get the Blade movie off the ground. The production's extensive delays and eventual shelving have also impacted other Marvel projects, such as its planned inclusion in the animated series 'Marvel Zombies.'
