Summary

- He believes Marvel made the decision not to proceed with the film.
- Ali has since re-teamed with director Bassam Tariq for a new film.

Mahershala Ali has confirmed his exit from Marvel's planned Blade reboot, citing the project's inability to move forward as the reason. In a recent interview, the acclaimed actor expressed that the project is not meant for him and that Marvel's resources could have ensured its production if desired. Ali indicated he feels ready to leave the Blade questions behind, deferring them to Marvel.
This development follows statements from Marvel's Kevin Feige, who admitted to feeling like a "failure" for not getting the Blade film with Ali off the ground. Originally announced in 2019, the film faced significant hurdles, including director Bassam Tariq's departure in 2022, just before shooting was set to commence.
Ali and Tariq have since collaborated on a new Amazon MGM Studios action film, 'Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.' Ali revealed he trained extensively for the Blade role, including sword techniques, and has now applied those skills to the new film, finding creative redemption. The new movie, starring Ali as a hitman protecting his children, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
