Varanasi is immersed in vibrant Mahashivratri celebrations, with devotees beginning rituals and the Panchkroshi Parikrama. Thousands have thronged Manikarnika Ghat to embark on the 88.5 km sacred journey, amidst chants of 'Har Har Mahadev'. Preparations are also in full swing for a special 44-hour uninterrupted darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, which commenced on Sunday morning.
Officials have meticulously planned crowd management and traffic diversions. Barricades have been erected on key routes, and parking zones are operational. Beyond the main temple, numerous other prominent Shiva temples, including Markandeya Mahadev and Kardameshwar, are also witnessing significant festivities. The Veershaiva followers' Mahashivratri celebration at Jangambadi Mutt also began with flag hoisting and scholarly events.
The sanctum sanctorum of Kashi Vishwanath temple will remain open for 44 continuous hours, concluding at 11 pm on Monday. Devotees are urged to adhere to guidelines, such as eating before queuing and refraining from carrying electronics or luggage. Senior officials have been overseeing arrangements, ensuring the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage and celebrations across the city.
