Summary
- Gajendra Chauhan found the Ramayana trailer unimpressive.
- He questioned modern portrayals of mythological characters.
- Chauhan praised Arun Govil's casting as Dashrath.

Gajendra Chauhan, acclaimed for his portrayal of Yudhishthir in the iconic 'Mahabharat,' has shared his candid critique of the trailer for the upcoming 'Ramayana.' Chauhan stated he was "not impressed" by the trailer, particularly questioning the contemporary styling of Kaikeyi and the emotional depth in the scene depicting Ram's exile. He drew parallels to his own experience portraying Dashrath in a 2002 version of the epic.
Chauhan elaborated on the challenges of casting well-known Bollywood stars in mythological roles. He posited that an actor's existing public image can hinder audience immersion, citing his own lack of prior stardom as beneficial for his 'Mahabharat' role. He contrasted this with Ranbir Kapoor's current stardom, though he conceded Kapoor looked good in the role's get-up.
Despite reservations, Chauhan highly praised the casting of Arun Govil as King Dashrath. Govil, who famously portrayed Lord Ram in the 1980s 'Ramayan,' is seen by Chauhan as a perfect fit, embodying a natural progression from playing the son to the father. The film, 'Ramayana: Part One,' is slated for release on November 8, 2026, with its second part expected during Diwali 2027.
