Comedian Magda Szubanski has alerted the public to a scam that uses her image and her recent cancer diagnosis to solicit donations. The fraudsters are employing an AI-generated picture of a woman resembling Szubanski in a hospital setting to deceive well-meaning individuals into contributing to fake medical funds.
Szubanski clarified on social media that this deceptive campaign is not affiliated with her and strongly advised against donating any money. She stressed that her supporters should only engage with her through her official platforms for authentic information. This warning comes after Szubanski revealed in May that she is undergoing treatment for Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
She previously shared that she has shaved her head as part of her treatment, which involves the Nordic protocol. Szubanski has been open about her health struggles, including previous battles with other health conditions, and her advocacy for mental health awareness.
