The Madison: Yellowstone's Unexpected Standalone Future

Summary
- The Madison was initially planned as a Yellowstone sequel.
- Michelle Pfeiffer was cast in the lead role in 2023.
- Creator Taylor Sheridan developed it into a standalone series.

Initially conceived as a sequel to the popular Yellowstone series, the show now titled The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, has evolved into a standalone project. This shift was confirmed by cast member Patrick J. Adams, who noted that the series, originally known by the working title "2024," moved further from its Yellowstone roots during development.
Pfeiffer was cast in the lead role in 2023, with the show later renamed The Madison. Although filming was underway with expectations of a crossover, creator Taylor Sheridan ultimately decided it would be a distinct entity. This allows the series to establish its own lore and characters, separate from the Dutton family saga.
The Madison is part of a larger "Sheridan-verse," which includes Yellowstone and its related shows, as well as other non-Yellowstone series. These include "Mayor of Kingstown," "Landman," "Lioness," and "Tulsa King," all available on Paramount+. The initial confusion stemmed from its proximity to Yellowstone's Montana setting and its original sequel status.
