Madhu Chopra, mother to actress Priyanka Chopra, has weighed in on the recent controversy involving Kriti Sanon's Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA. Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Chopra emphasized that while the principle of 'my body, my choice' is important, it must be accompanied by 'boundaries,' 'dignity,' and respect for established cultural values.

Chopra further discussed her daughter Priyanka's fashion choices, noting that while her children have the freedom to wear what they choose for work or personal preference, it is essential that such attire appears 'aesthetic' and appropriate for the specific occasion to avoid criticism.

The controversy arose after Kriti Sanon appeared in an Indo-Western outfit for a GIVA Raksha Bandhan advertisement. The attire, which included a bralette-style blouse, drew significant online criticism, with many questioning its suitability for a traditional Indian festival.

Following the backlash, GIVA promptly removed the advertisement and issued an apology, stating their deep respect for Indian culture. Kriti Sanon, however, defended her choice, arguing that the essence of festivals lies in emotions and traditions, not attire, and that 'culture and traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline.' This incident has fueled a wider debate on societal expectations for women's dress during cultural celebrations.
