Maddie Evans, recognized for her role in House of the Dragon, is set to headline Pendle 1612, a new British horror feature. The film, inspired by the historical Pendle Witch Trials of 1612, is penned and directed by twin filmmakers Liam and Kyle Bashford.
Evans will portray Amy, alongside Ella Moss as Hannah and Gemma Laurie as Meg. Their characters, three young women, delve into the mystery of Amy's sister's disappearance, leading them to the ominous landscape of Pendle Hill. This region is historically linked to the 1612 trials where ten individuals were convicted and executed for witchcraft.
Principal photography for Pendle 1612 is scheduled to begin at the end of September. The production will be based on location in Lancashire, the heart of the Pendle witch folklore. The filmmakers expressed a desire to explore the enduring legacy of the Pendle Witches rather than a direct historical reenactment.
The Bashford twins, who hail from Lancashire, emphasized their commitment to showcasing filmmaking talent within the North West. They aim to prove that substantial independent films can be produced in their home region, drawing on their own early filmmaking experiences in Blackburn.
