William H. Macy and his daughter Sophia recently graced the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival, appearing together for the premiere of their new film, 'Brian.' The father and daughter, who both act in the coming-of-age teen comedy, presented a united front at the event.
The film 'Brian' features Ben Wang as a high school student navigating mental health and a political campaign. This premiere occurred around the same time as the 2026 Oscars, an event Macy did not attend despite one of his projects receiving nominations.
Macy's recent work, 'Train Dreams,' adapted from a 2011 novella, earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Despite the acclaim, the project did not secure any wins.
In other reflections, Macy shared his strong stance against cinematic violence, stating it's detrimental to society. However, he expressed a desire to portray a villain in a superhero movie, believing such roles can add grounding to high-concept plots.
The Macy family, including wife Felicity Huffman and younger daughter Georgia, had maintained a lower profile following Huffman's involvement in a 2019 college admissions scandal. Macy noted the jail sentence that followed 'brought us closer.' Georgia graduated from Vassar College this year, having previously shown interest in politics.
