In a recent interview, veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan has shed light on the emotional backstories behind some of Bollywood's most iconic songs. Anjaan reveals that the 2005 hit 'Kuch Toh Baaki Hai' from the film 'Milenge Milenge' was written as an ode to the real-life breakup of actors Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, who were dating at the time of filming.
Anjaan explains that the producers were hesitant to shoot the remaining scenes after Kareena and Shahid's split, so he and composer Himesh Reshammiya were asked to pen a song that would capture the essence of the couple's love story. The result was the poignant ballad 'Kuch Toh Baaki Hai', which has since become a beloved breakup anthem for fans.
The lyricist also reveals that Salman Khan would often break down in tears while recording the title track for his 2003 film 'Tere Naam', as the song was based on his own heartbreak after his split with Aishwarya Rai. Anjaan says that Salman wanted the track to authentically reflect his real-life emotions.
Anjaan emphasizes that great songs are not just about words, but about capturing the true feelings and experiences of the artists involved. He believes that when lyrics come straight from the soul, they have a deeper, more lasting impact on the audience.
