Ball & Arnaz Jr.: Epic Three-Season Series Planned

A new three-season series is in development, focusing on the rich and complex lives of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz Jr. Spearheaded by their daughter, Lucie Arnaz, and producer Bob Greenblatt, the project aims to go far beyond the comedic legacy of "I Love Lucy." It will chronicle their individual tumultuous upbringings, their rise to television stardom, and the personal challenges they faced throughout their marriage.

The series, with the working title "Lucy and Desi: The Greatest Story Never Told," will be penned by Oscar nominee Richard LaGravenese. Drawing from autobiographies and personal accounts, it intends to explore themes of addiction, infidelity, and their struggles to balance personal lives with professional achievements. This deeper narrative seeks to provide a more nuanced understanding of the beloved icons.

Planned with a structure similar to "The Crown," each season will cover distinct periods, from their youth in the 1930s to the height of "I Love Lucy's" success in the 1950s and beyond. The development comes as "I Love Lucy" approaches its 75th anniversary, with network and streamer pitches set to begin soon, promising a comprehensive look at a legendary Hollywood couple.
