The city of Lucknow recently celebrated its vibrant cultural traditions through an event titled 'Lutf-e-Lucknow Khana aur Gaana,' which harmoniously combined music and cuisine.
This cultural evening featured a compelling storytelling performance, 'Akhtari se Begum Akhtar,' presented by Askari Naqvi and Zeeshan Abbas. The performance delved into the life and musical legacy of the renowned ghazal singer Begum Akhtar, drawing from writings by Saleem Kidwai and S M Mehdi.
Naqvi narrated anecdotes from Begum Akhtar's life while Abbas provided sarangi accompaniment, bringing her ghazals such as 'Wo jo hum mein tum mein qaraar tha' to life. Naqvi, a Lucknow performer trained by esteemed musicians, has graced both national and international stages, while Abbas brings a rich musical lineage to his collaborations.
The event also highlighted the Awadhi Home Cooked Festival, expertly curated by Sheeba Iqbal. This culinary segment celebrated traditional recipes passed down through generations, offering a taste of authentic home-style Awadhi cuisine that might otherwise be lost in modern times. Dishes like Kundan Kaliya, Achraj, Dhungare Baigan, and Bharwan Aloo were served, showcasing the depth of Awadhi flavors achieved through patient preparation and marination.
