Legendary Photographer Captures 4 Decades of Lucknow

Mirza Raza Ali Khan, a 66-year-old photographer, has documented Lucknow's evolution for 40 years. His camera has captured over 50 celebrities, including Hema Malini, Imran Khan, and Ghulam Ali, during their visits to the city. Khan fondly recalls photographing Hema Malini in the 1990s as a career highlight. He also remembers Chunky Panday's numerous photo requests.

Khan's journey into photography began unexpectedly, inspired by a personal photo session with his daughter. In an era where photo development was a lengthy and costly process, sending pictures to Delhi for processing cost around Rs 50. He decided to start his own photography business.

Today, the digital age has transformed the industry. The widespread use of smartphones has significantly diminished the demand for professional photographers, leaving Khan with few customers. Consequently, he has encouraged his son to pursue a different career in antique trading rather than photography.

Despite the changing times, Khan remains dedicated to his craft. He continues to operate from his long-standing location at Bada Imambara, camera in hand. His work captures a unique perspective on Lucknow, preserving four decades of the city's visual history.
