From November 13-18, 2025, the city of Lucknow is hosting the 6-day Janjatiye Bhagidari Utsav festival, organized by the Uttar Pradesh tourism and culture departments in collaboration with the social welfare department. The annual festival marks the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda and aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of India's tribal communities.
The festival will feature over 100 stalls offering a diverse array of tribal cuisines, handlooms, paintings, home decor, jewelry, and storytelling sessions. Visitors will also be able to experience tribal games, workshops, and regional food competitions that showcase the artistic brilliance and cultural depth of these communities. A new addition to the festival this year is an exhibition of traditional masks from the tribal people of northeast India.
"Indian civilization owes an unmatched depth to its tribal communities," said Uttar Pradesh's culture and tourism minister Jaiveer Singh. "This festival is a strong initiative to bring the idea of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' to life through the cultural unity of our tribal societies." The festival is a celebration of the pride, development, and empowerment of tribal communities, their traditions, languages, and lifestyles, further strengthening the foundations of India's unity.
