The Folk Art Museum in Lucknow is set to undergo a significant expansion, with the UP culture department allocating Rs 14.98 crore for new attractions and enhanced exhibition spaces. This initiative follows a recent Rs 3 crore renovation that improved the museum's infrastructure, including waterproofing and updated displays. Established in 1989 as part of the State Museum, the institution is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the folk arts of Uttar Pradesh. The expansion will introduce recreated village scenes and models of prehistoric cave walls, offering visitors a glimpse into early human life and rural traditions. Additionally, the plan includes interactive textile displays, traditional tribal cottages, and a dedicated workshop area with a stage for folk performances. The museum will also feature regional artworks and crafts, including zardozi from Varanasi and terracotta sculptures from Gorakhpur. A children's activity zone is also planned to engage younger visitors with folk art through interactive sessions. Culture and tourism minister Jaiveer Singh highlighted the initiative's importance in preserving folk heritage, while Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijaat noted the aim for a more engaging visitor experience.
