French artist Olivier Poizat, also known as Kesadi, recently completed a vibrant mural on the Lady Shri Ram College for Women campus in Delhi as part of the fifth Wall Art Festival. Titled 'The Nightingale and the Grocery Shop,' the artwork was inspired by the artist's observations of local fruit stands and birds during his visit. Poizat collaborated with students and volunteers over four days to bring the mural to life.
The festival, organized by Alliance Française in collaboration with the Embassy of France and Institut Français, aims to celebrate the beauty of the mundane and explore social perceptions through art. Conceptualizer Shailja Negi stated the mural is a tribute to Sarojini Naidu and Annie Ernaux, honoring their contributions to empowering women. This initiative aligns with LSR's commitment to empowerment through the arts.
LSR Principal Prof. Kanika Ahuja emphasized the mural's symbolic significance, representing empowerment and the college's participation in the 2026 Year of Innovation between India and France. The college's fine arts society, Hive, actively contributes to campus beautification with various art projects, including murals reflecting relevant themes and global conversations.
