- Past queer pairings faced challenges both on and off the show.

Love Island USA host Ariana Madix has expressed a strong desire for more LGBTQIA+ representation on the program, highlighting that such inclusion mirrors real-life diversity. Madix believes that the show should embrace and follow any burgeoning queer storylines that may develop organically among contestants.
Historically, the Love Island franchise has seen a few notable LGBTQIA+ couples. In 2016, Sophie Gradon and Katie Salmon made history on Love Island UK as the first same-sex pairing. Sophie's journey concluded early that season, and Katie later pursued a different relationship. Sadly, Sophie passed away in June 2018 at the age of 32.
Further queer connections include Phoebe Thompson and Cassie Lansdell on Love Island Australia in 2019, whose romance ended when Cassie coupled with another contestant. In Love Island USA Season 5 (2023), Kassy Castillo and Johnnie Garcia formed a connection but their relationship did not extend beyond the villa. Most recently, Megan Barton-Hanson and Kyra Green coupled up during Love Island Games Season 1 (2023), but Megan withdrew from the competition due to undisclosed medical reasons.
