Love Island Star to Represent Cyprus at Eurovision

Antigoni Buxton, a singer-songwriter who previously appeared on Love Island series eight in 2022, is now representing Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest. Born in London with Greek-Cypriot roots, Buxton expressed that her participation in Love Island was the unexpected turn, with her lifelong dream being a career in music and a passion for Eurovision.

Her Eurovision entry, titled 'Jalla,' is a dancefloor anthem that incorporates traditional Greek instruments and references the popular Tsifteteli belly dance. The title itself is Cypriot-Greek slang, roughly translating to 'more' or 'again,' a term Buxton says holds special significance and allows her to share her heritage.

Buxton has also featured notable cameos in her music video for 'Jalla,' including her own family and Stavros Flatley, the father-son dance duo who gained fame on Britain's Got Talent in 2009. She highlighted the positive and supportive nature of the Eurovision community, contrasting it with the judgmental aspects sometimes found in other public-facing platforms.

Cyprus is competing in Eurovision for the 42nd time, a participation record for a country without a win. While Buxton's entry did not reach the 2025 final, her performance in Vienna featured a theatrical element with dancers emerging from a supersized table. Buxton emphasized that her primary goal is to perform her best and make her country, family, and team proud, viewing that as a win in itself, while also acknowledging the opportunity to make history for Cyprus.
