Two previously 'lost' episodes of the classic Doctor Who series from the 1960s have been recovered and will soon be accessible to the public. These episodes, titled 'The Nightmare Begins' and 'Devil's Planet', originally formed part of the acclaimed third series, 'The Daleks' Master Plan'.
The original serials were penned by Terry Nation and featured William Hartnell as the Doctor, accompanied by companions like Steven Taylor and Katarina. The discovery was made by Film is Fabulous!, a charitable trust dedicated to preserving film and television history.
Film is Fabulous! located the episodes within a private collection and subsequently alerted BBC Archives. Following a meticulous restoration process of the 16mm telerecordings, the episodes are now ready for broadcast. Viewers in the UK can catch these historic installments on BBC iPlayer starting at 6 am on Good Friday, April 3, 2026.
This release significantly enhances the 'Whoniverse' collection already available on BBC iPlayer, offering fans a chance to experience more of Doctor Who's rich heritage.
