Broadway has a new vampire musical with the debut of 'The Lost Boys,' based on the 1987 film. Directed by Michael Arden, the $25 million-plus production aims to succeed where previous vampire musicals have failed. The show's co-writers, David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, have refined the screenplay, enhancing humor and warmth while tightening the original plot.
The musical follows Lucy Emerson and her two teenage sons as they move to a California coastal town. One son, Michael, is drawn into a group of vampires led by the charismatic David. He becomes a half-vampire and must complete his first kill to fully join their ranks. His younger brother, Sam, teams up with the Frog Brothers, amateur vampire hunters, to save him.
Performances by Shoshana Bean as Lucy, LJ Benet as Michael, and Ali Louis Bourzgui as David have been highlighted. The production also features impressive visuals, including lighting, sound, and a multi-level set design, along with mesmerizing aerial work. The musical's score by The Rescues evokes an '80s sound while remaining contemporary.
