24 Mar
Summary
- Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller declined a return to Star Wars.
- They prefer creating new, original film franchises.
- The duo was previously fired from directing 'Solo'.
Filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have definitively stated their disinterest in revisiting the Star Wars franchise. The directing duo, currently promoting their original film 'Project Hail Mary,' explained their focus is on creating new cinematic universes.
Lord mentioned that while the emotional wounds from their dismissal from 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' in 2017 are not severe, they now have the opportunity to develop original projects. This allows them the creative freedom they seek in moviemaking.
Their departure from 'Solo' was reportedly due to creative differences with Lucasfilm. Following this experience, Lord and Miller have achieved significant success with animated films like the 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' series and 'The Mitchells vs. The Machines.'
