The Foyle Maritime Festival, a major waterfront celebration of Londonderry's maritime heritage, is currently underway and expected to attract over 100,000 visitors. This four-day event, themed 'Forged by the Foyle,' highlights the river's historical significance to the region and its people. The festival program features a stunning array of visiting ships, including the Galeón Andalucía replica, tall ship The Phoenix, and a 90-year-old Danish fishing vessel, Le Dundee Mutin, along with a French World War II spy boat. As part of the festivities, the ships will be illuminated nightly in a display called Sails of Solace, paying homage to Derry's bustling dock history. The quay has been transformed into a festival village, offering a food village, markets, and a vintage funfair. Attendees can also engage with living history characters, explore watersport taster events, and get a preview of the city's new museum at the DNA tent. Live music performances and street entertainment are scheduled throughout the weekend, culminating in a choir performance and fireworks finale on Sunday. Organizers have implemented enhancements for accessibility, including dedicated parking and a Quiet Space. The festival, which generated over £7 million for the local economy in 2024, is a highlight of the city's calendar, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
