A new film festival dedicated to Latin American cinema will debut in London this October. The London Latino Film Festival is scheduled to run from October 2nd to 6th, with its opening night held at the Barbican. The festival will feature prominent figures such as Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta and Argentine actor Óscar Martínez, who will engage with audiences in Q&A sessions following film screenings.
A special exhibition of Cuban film posters, hand-printed in Havana, will also be a highlight. These unique designs will be on display at the Eclectic Gallery from September 28th for three weeks. Proceeds from poster sales will benefit both the festival and Cuba. The festival was founded by Cuban actress Ketty Rodriguez, who observed a lack of Latin American cultural presence in London after her move in May 2025.
Organizers report hundreds of entries across various categories, including features, documentaries, and shorts. Further events include a screening of "Yuli: The Carlos Acosta Story" with the former Royal Ballet principal himself, and masterclasses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This initiative comes as an estimated 157,800 to 187,800 Latin Americans reside in London, highlighting a significant community seeking cultural representation.
