A significant 19th-century Arab Hall, located in Kensington's Leighton House, is now the subject of a major exhibition.
This historically rich space, designed by Victorian artist Frederic Leighton after his travels, features Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences. It gained a unique cultural significance in the 1980s when it was chosen as the filming location for iconic music videos, including Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' and The Stranglers' 'Golden Brown.'
Currently, the Arab Hall is hosting 'The Arab Hall: Past and Present,' an exhibition that coincides with the 100th anniversary of Leighton House becoming a museum in 1926. The exhibition includes new research, a short film, and contemporary art installations.
The Arab Hall, completed in 1881, is renowned for its antique Islamic tiles from regions like Damascus, Turkey, and Iran. It was originally an extension to Leighton's studio, reflecting his international inspirations and offering a tranquil oasis within London.
This exhibition runs until October 4, 2026, offering visitors a chance to explore the hall's past and its connection to music and art.
