The beloved cult video game 'Lollipop Chainsaw' is set to make its big-screen debut with a live-action feature film adaptation in development. This R-rated action-comedy will reimagine the story of Juliet Starling, a high school cheerleader and zombie hunter, as she navigates a catastrophic outbreak at her school.
The film's creators aim to establish a new model for building globally recognized entertainment franchises originating from Asia. The original 'Lollipop Chainsaw' game, released in 2012, has achieved significant cult status, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide. A remastered edition, 'Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP,' was released two years ago, further reigniting interest in the franchise.
An international creative and production team, including representatives from Nada Holdings, Orange Chariot, Throne Inc, Ambitious Entertainment, and Non Stop TV, is collaborating on the movie. Dragami Games President Shohei Sato expressed excitement about this next step for the franchise, emphasizing the team's understanding of the game's unique appeal while embracing new creative directions.
Robert Franke, part of the production team, stated their ambition to create a film that is faithful to the 'Lollipop Chainsaw' spirit, offering both familiar attitude and irreverence for longtime fans and an unforgettable experience for newcomers. The project was unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show.
