Breaking the Labels, an adult day service provider, is presenting its inaugural art exhibition at the Allen County Historical Society & Museum in Lima. This event, scheduled from Tuesday, August 4th through October 3rd, provides a platform for 28 individuals with developmental disabilities to display their artistic creations.
The art projects serve a dual purpose: fostering creativity and developing essential skills. For instance, button art enhances fine motor control, hand strength, and pincer grasp. Other pieces, like a tree with cherry blossoms crafted from bottle bottoms, also target hand strength. A third technique involves using balloons to create painted effects on canvas, promoting arm movement and strength.
This exhibition offers a glimpse into the diverse talents and capabilities of the participants. Moneai Krugh, the activities coordinator, highlighted that the show is a display for artists, their families, and the wider community. All proceeds generated from the sale of artwork will be reinvested into the artists' engagement in various outings and activities facilitated by Breaking the Labels.
