Liverpool Festival Faces Noise and Late-Night Objections
21 Mar
Summary
- Police object to late alcohol sales and music at Irish festival.
- Concerns raised about 5,000 people leaving the site late.
- Environmental health team cited noise disturbance to residents.

Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council's environmental health team have raised objections to the proposed hours for the Fields of Eire festival, scheduled for the first weekend in June. Organizers requested permission for alcohol sales until 23:30 and music performances until midnight.
However, police expressed concerns about a potential late-night "mass exodus" of up to 5,000 festival-goers, fearing an increase in crime and disorder in surrounding residential areas. They proposed an earlier end to alcohol sales at 21:30 and music by 22:00.
Environmental health officers also cited potential "significant noise disturbance" to residents living approximately 100 metres from the Newsham Park site, noting the park's open layout offers few natural noise barriers. Organizers stated they are developing a Noise Management Plan and anticipate a favorable outcome at the upcoming licensing hearing on March 25.
