German actress Lisa Vicari, widely recognized for her role in Netflix's "Dark," is embarking on a new project with the series' creators, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar. Vicari will headline their upcoming HBO Max show, which is based on Heinrich Hoffmann's 1845 German children's book, "Struwwelpeter."
The series aims to transform the book's ten cautionary tales into a contemporary thriller narrative. Unlike the original stories, the show will feature adult protagonists and delve into darker themes. It follows a federal investigator tasked with solving ritualistic murders that draw inspiration from the unsettling original tales.
"Struwwelpeter," which translates to "Shockheaded Peter," is named after its first story about a neglected, unkempt boy. The new adaptation is described as a "cruel reality" thriller that also functions as a family drama, exploring themes of punishment and forgiveness. Production for this anticipated series is currently underway.
