Miranda: I Chose Marriage Over Marvel's Vulture Role

Lin-Manuel Miranda, renowned for his work on Hamilton, recently shared that he personally declined an offer to play the Vulture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming. The role was directly offered by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, bypassing any formal audition process.

Miranda explained his decision stemmed from a desire to maintain his personal life. He noted that the filming schedule for Spider-Man: Homecoming would have begun immediately after his commitment to Hamilton concluded. He expressed that he wished to stay married and felt this role would prevent that.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Miranda stated he believed he would have been "deeply miscast" in the villainous role. He suggested that Michael Keaton's portrayal brought a necessary menace that he, as a more affable personality, could not have replicated. Miranda expressed no regrets, emphasizing his need for a vacation after his intense Broadway run.
