Drummer John Otto shared deeply personal memories on Instagram, calling Rivers his best friend and brother, and vowing to honor his life with every future performance. The band's collective statement described Rivers as "pure magic" and "the pulse beneath every song," highlighting his irreplaceable talent and enormous heart.

Sam Rivers died on October 18th at the age of 48. His health had been a concern following a liver disease diagnosis in 2011 and a subsequent transplant in 2017. He had briefly stepped away from the band in 2015 before rejoining in 2018.
