"We Were Liars" Series Expands with Returning Cast and New Twists

In the lead-up to the release of her new novel "We Fell Apart," author E. Lockhart has revealed details about the upcoming second season of the Prime Video adaptation of her bestselling book "We Were Liars."

The series is set to welcome back several familiar faces, including Joseph Zada, who will soon appear as Haymitch Abernathy in the upcoming "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." Zada will reprise his role as Johnny Sinclair Dennis, while Emily Alyn Lind will also return to play the narrating character of Cadence Sinclair Eastman. Additionally, the three Sinclair sisters and aunts who connected the cousins in the first season are also slated to make a comeback.

Lockhart shared that the showrunners, Julie Plec and Carina Adley Mackenzie, are planning to interweave storylines from the prequel novel "Family of Liars" into the second season. This book tells the story of the Sinclair sisters' own mysterious experiences on Beechwood Island when they were teenagers. Lockhart promises that while fans of "Family of Liars" will get to see the events they want, there will also be "fun new twists and turns" added to the narrative.

Viewers may recall the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, which saw Aunt Carrie (played by Mamie Gummer) discovering the ghost of her dead son Johnny waiting for her on the island. It remains to be seen how this plot point will be explored in the upcoming season.

As for Lockhart's latest novel "We Fell Apart," the author describes it as a standalone story, but hints that there may be nods to the world of "We Were Liars" woven into the narrative. Fans will have to stay tuned to see how the new book might connect to the television adaptation.
