Summary
- Liam Hemsworth replaces Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher
- Cavill's departure was mutually agreed upon, he wanted to pursue other roles
- Hemsworth was surprised by the offer, says he's a fan of Cavill's portrayal

In a surprising move, Liam Hemsworth has been cast as the new Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of Netflix's popular fantasy series The Witcher. This announcement comes as the show's previous lead, Henry Cavill, is departing the role.
Hemsworth, who rose to fame for his role in The Hunger Games franchise, was caught off guard by the offer to take over the iconic character. "It came out of nowhere," the 35-year-old actor admitted. Despite the social media "noise" that followed the news, Hemsworth is excited to step into Geralt's shoes, saying he's "a massive fan of Henry's, and I'm a fan of what he did in the show."
According to The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Cavill's departure was a mutual decision. "He had plans for other roles that he really wanted to commit himself to," she explained. "And for us, you don't want to hold someone and force them to be doing something that they don't want to do."
Cavill, who has played Geralt since the show's inception in 2019, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and enthusiasm for Hemsworth's take on the character. "As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men," he said.
With Hemsworth now at the helm, fans can expect a fresh interpretation of the iconic Witcher when the fourth season premieres on Netflix on October 30.
