Leighton Meester's Forgotten Pop Tunes Resurface After Decade-Long Hiatus

In a surprising turn of events, two songs originally intended for Leighton Meester's unreleased 2009 pop album have recently resurfaced on music streaming platforms. The actress, who is now 39 years old, was unaware of this development, as she has been busy with her acting career.

Meester, best known for her role in the hit TV series "Gossip Girl," admits that she had no idea about the release of "Body Control" and "Your Lies Are the Truth / Almost Perfect" until she was contacted for an interview. "I didn't know about that at all," she says, explaining that sometimes contracts with streaming services can expire and be renewed, leading to the unexpected appearance of old tracks.

Despite her initial doubts about her vocal abilities, Meester is now pleased that fans can finally listen to the long-forgotten songs. "I'm really glad that people can hear it," she tells PEOPLE. The actress, who has partnered with Godiva for a new campaign, says she enjoys making music and hopes to continue pursuing it in the future, though her "day job" as an actress has sometimes taken precedence.

As Meester reflects on her abandoned pop music career, she acknowledges that she "didn't feel like [she] sang that well in those songs" and that's why she stopped that style of songwriting. However, with the recent release of her old tracks, Meester is now embracing the opportunity to share her musical talents with her fans once again.
