The 8th annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television is set to take place in Los Angeles on December 9, 2025, before airing on Starz in early 2026. The event will honor several trailblazers in the industry, including legendary filmmaker Spike Lee, who will receive the organization's Career Achievement Award.
Lee's illustrious career spans nearly 40 years, with acclaimed films such as "She's Gotta Have It," "Do the Right Thing," "Malcolm X," and this year's "Highest 2 Lowest." The director was previously awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 2015 and won a screenplay Oscar three years later for "BlacKkKlansman."
Joining Lee on the honors list are "Creed" and "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler, who will be recognized with the Directing Award for his work on "Sinners." Additionally, actress Tessa Thompson, known for her role in Nia DaCosta's Ibsen adaptation "Hedda," will be presented with the Actress Award - Film.
The event, hosted by comedian Jay Pharoah, aims to celebrate excellence in Black cinema and television, with the Critics Choice Association highlighting the continued impact of diverse and high-profile roles created by a record number of Black women this year.
