Lee Mack reveals parents, brother died from alcohol

Comedian Lee Mack has made a poignant revelation about the tragic impact of alcohol abuse within his family, disclosing that both his parents and his brother succumbed to the disease. Mack, known for his wit, shared that his brother Darren passed away in 2014, followed by his parents' deaths earlier. He found sobriety in 2016 after reading Allen Carr's influential book on controlling alcohol consumption.

The 57-year-old comedian stated that seeing alcohol for what it truly was prompted his decision to quit. He recalled his upbringing in a family of publicans, living above a pub until his parents' separation. Mack also shared an unusual anecdote from a party where he first tried cocaine, leading to an unexpected urge to meticulously clean the kitchen while his friends partied.

Mack described how, after taking cocaine, he felt no immediate effect. Hours later, however, he inexplicably adopted a 'mother figure' role, becoming engrossed in cooking pizzas and cleaning the oven and cooker. This experience, alongside the profound loss of his family members to alcohol abuse, has shaped his perspective on substance use and his journey to sobriety.
