The renowned Leach Pottery in St Ives is undergoing a significant one-year restoration project aimed at enriching the visitor experience and showcasing its global collection. Established in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, the museum will feature a newly created gallery. This space will allow for the exhibition of significant pottery pieces from international collections.
Collaborations with esteemed institutions such as the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Centre of Ceramic Art in York are planned. This initiative will bring diverse and important ceramic works to St Ives, offering visitors a unique perspective on global pottery traditions.
Director Libby Buckley emphasized the inclusive nature of the forthcoming gallery, stating it is designed to engage a broad audience. From professional ceramicists to individuals encountering pottery for the first time, the revitalized museum aims to be a welcoming and educational hub for all.
