Laverne Cox Splits with MAGA Ex: 'Love Myself More'

Actress Laverne Cox shared details about ending a significant relationship with a former partner, identified as a MAGA Republican voter and New York City police officer. Cox explained during her June 8 appearance on "The View" that while the relationship began positively, she later discovered her partner had misrepresented his profession and his political affiliation became apparent.

Cox expressed that although she initially wanted to see him as a human being beyond his politics, the unexamined nature of his life and values ultimately led to the breakup. She emphasized that her decision was rooted in self-preservation, stating, "I love him, but I love myself more." Cox indicated that a fundamental difference in values, both personal and political, drove the separation, which was announced in July 2025.

Further elaborating on this period, Cox is set to discuss these experiences in her forthcoming memoir, "Transcendent," slated for release on June 9. She also touched upon the broader political climate, condemning the ongoing rollback of transgender rights, including restrictions on gender-affirming care and access to public facilities.
