Laura Linney, an acclaimed actress with five Tony nominations, is scheduled to return to Broadway next spring. She will star in David Hare's new play, titled "Montauk," which will be presented at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater by Manhattan Theater Club (MTC).
In "Montauk," Linney will embody a writer who becomes involved with a painter, with the story unfolding in Manhattan and on Long Island. The role of the painter has not yet been cast. This production signifies Linney's return to the stage after a four-year hiatus from Broadway.
Beyond her starring role, Manhattan Theater Club announced that Linney has been appointed as their first artist-in-residence. In this capacity, she will be instrumental in developing future productions for the organization and will contribute to its outreach initiatives.
Linney, a prolific talent both on screen and stage, has received three Academy Award nominations. Her recent Broadway appearance was in MTC's 2023 production of "Summer, 1976." David Hare, the playwright, is known for works such as "Plenty" and "Skylight." Notably, commercial producer Scott Rudin had previously intended to produce "Montauk" but withdrew due to creative differences.
