HBO's The Last of Us Renewed Through Season 3!

HBO has officially renewed its hit series 'The Last of Us' for a third season, with a planned release in 2027. This renewal was anticipated, given the creators' intent to adapt the extensive source material over multiple seasons. Co-creator Neil Druckmann has announced his departure from the show to concentrate on his role at Naughty Dog, the game studio. He confirmed his exit after season 2 work was completed, stating it was the right time to transition his focus.

Season 3 is slated to explore Abby's narrative through a backward time jump to "Seattle Day One," mirroring events from season 2. While season 2 covers a portion of the 'Part II' plot, creators suggest season 3 might be longer to accommodate the story's complexities. The showrunners indicated that completing the entire narrative may require a fourth season.

Several cast members are expected to return, including Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. New additions to the cast include Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Manny, Michelle Mao as Yara, and Kyriana Kratter as Lev. Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson are also joining in new roles. Filming for season 3 is anticipated to begin in 2026.
