The western comedy "Last Train to Fortune" is making its debut in theaters, with an initial release in New York on September 18, 2026, followed by Dallas on September 23 and Los Angeles on September 25. The film, produced by Brad Wyman and directed by Adam Rifkin, stars Malcolm McDowell and James Paxton, son of the late actor Bill Paxton. Additional screenings are planned nationwide throughout the fall.
Mentioned as a key theme, director Adam Rifkin stated that the film, though set in the 1870s, carries a relevant message about education's importance and freedom, especially as books face bans. The film was written by Michelle Rifkin decades ago, originally intended to star Bill Paxton alongside McDowell. After Bill Paxton's untimely death in 2017, the project was revived with his son James Paxton stepping into the role.
TriCoast Worldwide is managing the film's distribution, including its theatrical run and subsequent streaming release later this year. The company is also handling worldwide rights beyond the initial theatrical engagement. Select theaters will also host retrospective screenings of Malcolm McDowell's work, including showings of "A Clockwork Orange."
