Summary
- An elderly yakuza reflects on his life with a talking flower.
- His past involves crime, bloodshed, and protecting a young woman.
- The film explores coexistence of violence and kindness in humans.

In Baku Kinoshita's contemplative anime, Akutsu, an elderly former yakuza, lies on his deathbed in a prison cell. He finds an unusual confidant in a talking balsam flower, through which his life story unfolds over one night.
Thirty years earlier, Akutsu lived with Nana and her baby son, Kensuke. When Kensuke was diagnosed with a heart condition, Akutsu became involved in a criminal plot, leading to his incarceration. This path involved bloodshed and a hidden treasure subplot.
The film is a moving exploration of human conscience, where capacity for violence and kindness coexist. It questions conventional notions of justice and the difficulty of assessing one's good and bad deeds, drawing parallels to Shōhei Imamura's film 'The Eel.'
