5 Oct
Summary
- Lanterns' second season has been confirmed by co-creator Damon Lindelof.
- John Stewart accepted his role as Earth's Green Lantern in Season 1.
- Hal Jordan's death was a definitive creative choice, not a trick.
The popular HBO sci-fi series Lanterns, inspired by True Detective, has officially been renewed for a second season. Co-creator Damon Lindelof confirmed that early development stages for the sophomore season have begun. The first season concluded with John Stewart embracing his role as Earth's Green Lantern, using a unique battery. This marked the end of his origin story, but the narrative is far from over.
Lindelof stated that while killing off Hal Jordan was a difficult but intentional decision, the creative team is exploring ways to continue his story, drawing inspiration from the comics where the character has died multiple times. He assured fans that Hal's apparent demise was not a ploy, emphasizing honesty to the character and audience. Although Lindelof will not return for Season 2, he expressed confidence in the writing team's ability to develop future storylines.
While Lanterns' Season 2 is in development, John Stewart is slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman film. This appearance is confirmed regardless of Lanterns' official renewal status, potentially bridging his story before the next season.
